Raspberry Pi
and Other "Fruit Pi's"
Up until around mid 2020 or so (who could EVER forget the worldwide damage to practically everything having to do with
electronic production that COVID 19 caused!) the various forms of Raspberry Pi boards were the most popular go-to hardware for
a H-U-G-E number of single board computer (SBC) projects. They are still pretty popular but this period in SBC history allowed
quite a few other challengers to the RasPi throne to gain in popularity. Many would-be RasPi users could not get their hands on a
board for extended periods of time so they started looking seriously at alternatives since they couldn't just go with the RasPi as
they had before. When the Pi's finally started becoming available again (in short rations) the prices were so high that only those
who really needed one would shell out the extra bucks. In the mean time, and I guess it's a good thing in hindsight, so many great
alternatives were discovered (out of necessity) that it became easy, and even desireable, for hobbyists to find something other
than a Pi that would do what they needed. Options are always better, and numerous options better still! Eventually the RasPi
boards started coming down in price so you can get one for a reasonable cash outlay now. Even though it was a difficult time for
a while I think we all learned good things from the experience and are better for it.
This page is for the Raspberry Pi's and a few other SBC's that are very similar. I'll start with the few that I have in my collection
since that's really what I wanted to concentrate on for the most part.
